Mexican Pink

Mexican Pink, also called Cardinal Catchfly, is a low growing native annual to perennial summer deciduous herb reaching 2-3 feet tall when in bloom. Subtle, sparsely leaved foliage is easy to miss until the bright blooms emerge.

Native to CA and Baja, found primarily along the central and southern coast. Mexican Pink dies back to its thick taproot after blooming. Plant with other chaparral species, in an area with well-draining soil or a slope. The blooms are stunning against a backdrop of native grasses such as Oatgrass (Danthonia californica).
