Whispering Bells

Whispering Bells is a petite spring annual wildflower that grows between 2 in-2 feet tall, sporting hairy stems and leaves that exude a sticky juice, with a lightly herbal fragrance. The flowers are delightful–pale yellow to pink petals and a bell-shaped form that dangles below stems, wavering in the wind.

A grassland wildflower, Whispering Bells’ germination may be triggered by the presence of burned plant material, which is why it’s often seen after a wildfire or prescribed fire. Found on dry open slopes of coastal central and southern CA, Whispering Bells is a wonderful addition to a rock garden, container garden, or pollinator patch!
